Thank You, Omaha, for the Good Life!

I never imagined I would ever call Omaha my home, but that’s exactly what this city has become for me. Omaha has played a role in everything good in my life right now. About 12 years ago, I drove across state lines.  The last of which greeted me with a sign that read, “Nebraska – The Good Life.” Today, I would have to agree. With the new year, I’m making a conscious effort at having a more half cup full perspective. This is the first year in many that I’ve set personal goals. One of them is to have an attitude of gratitude and this blog is my first exercise.

Over the last year I stopped dreaming of moving back to where the weather is almost always warm. Our families are along both coasts and at times we really do miss their company. But I finally realized that our day to day here is pretty great. And for that, I give some thanks to Omaha.

Thank you, Omaha, for accepting me while I pursued to further my education.

Becoming a pharmacist was part of my plan to help support my future family. It was also a way for me to give more than what I had to my future children. I didn’t expect to stay much longer after graduation, but a higher power set out other plans for me.

Thank you, Omaha, for grounding me deeper in my faith.

Although our church can be found throughout the world, our congregation here is humble and cozy. It was here that I took my first office to help the church in any way I can. Through every challenge I faced in my first couple of years in Omaha, this is where  and when I also grew stronger in my faith.

Thank you, Omaha, for welcoming my husband.

He wasn’t my husband when he first moved here and our meeting in Omaha was far from love at first sight, but Omaha is where we fell in love and for that Omaha surely holds a special place in my heart. No matter where I go in life, Omaha will always be a part of me. It wasn’t simply a stepping stone to get from one place to another, but a cornerstone in my story.

Thank you, Omaha, for being so good to my Nebraska born children.

This city has so much to offer which makes it easy as a parent to enrich my little kids’ lives. Check out our Guide to Omaha section (growing resource) for just a fraction of what’s in and around town. Having everything I need within a decent distance means I’m spending less time on the road every day. More importantly, it means I have more time with my kiddos. Because of this, I can squeeze in quite a lot in my day. This results in feeling pretty productive and closer to being a Super Mom. In the twelve years that I’ve lived in Omaha I’ve met many who are proud to have been born and raised here. I can see the same being true for my own children.

Thank you also for reading this far! Hopefully I can keep up this year with #365DaysOfGratitude.
