Halloween at Home:: Ideas for a Socially Distanced Holiday

This Halloween will be undoubtedly full of spooky fun, not just because we will be celebrating a little differently this year and I’m not just talking about our ever-changing “new normal” . . .

There will be a full moon and a time change on October 31st, too!

Halloween at Home

Although we are embracing another holiday with new guidelines for social-distancing . . .Halloween is NOT canceled!

Here are some creative ideas I have come up with to help you create your very own “Halloween at Home” with your family!

Décor:

Halloween at Home

  • Tablecloth:

This particular table covering is from Joann’s and was under five bucks! I scored it for 40% off and an extra 20% off of that with an online pick-up. For ease, you could pick up an orange or black throw-away table cloth from the grocery store or the dollar tree.

Total cost: $4.00

  • Plates, Napkins & Straws:

Target, Dollar Tree, or any party store!

Total cost: $3.00

I pulled the chargers from my stash out of my buffet (purchased from Hobby Lobby).

  • Skeleton: Kirkland’s $24.99 (check for coupons)
  • Kitty Witch: Wal-Mart $5.00
  • Black Tree: Target $6.00 (last season)
  • Bat Cloche: Target $8.00
  • Candles: Michael’s $6.00

Craft:

Michael’s or Hobby Lobby has a wide variety of Halloween craft packs for just a few dollars for the kiddos to create!

Total Cost: $3.00

Games:

Halloween Bingo:

I picked up this Halloween Bingo set from Target in the Halloween section and plan to keep it for future years!

Total Cost: $6.00

Pumpkin Ping Pong:

I couldn’t resist this pumpkin ping pong game from Target  (I also plan to keep this one).

Total cost: $6.00

Mummy Sack Race:

Look through your party stash or pick up a package of white crepe paper.

Directions:

Wrap up everyone’s legs with the crepe paper like a mummy. The first person to cross the finish line without ripping the paper wins! I picked up a huge roll from Wal-Mart for 97 cents!

Total cost: $0.97

Pumpkin Patch Stomp:

Directions:

Pick up a package of orange balloons. Fill each balloon with tootsie rolls, double trouble gum, pennies, or stickers! Once the balloons are filled, throw them in the backyard and let the kids kiddos loose to stomp them with their feet. Each balloon that they pop will have a prize inside for them to keep!

Total cost: $3.00

Prizes:

Besides candy, I picked up some Udis Halloween Pretzels, pirates booty snack-sized bags, Annie’s Halloween fruit snacks, and little Halloween trinkets from dollar spot or Dollar Tree: spider rings, glow sticks, stickers, etc.

Mix all of the prizes in a bucket!

Halloween At Home

Drinks:

  • Orange Fanta (caffeine-free is always a plus)
  • Try out a fun punch recipe and pour it into a glass bowl nestled in a cauldron!
  • If you don’t want to go to the trouble of making a punch, you could pick up a box of Halloween themed Kool-Aid Jammers from Target!

Food:

Order pizza from your favorite local pizza place, or make your own jack-o-lantern pizza! Pick up a few pre-packaged personal-sized pizzas and have each family member create their very own jack-o-lantern, mummy, or vampire pizza. You could even offer a prize for the most creative pizza out of the prize bucket!

Movie:

We plan to end the evening with a movie by the fireplace.  Have everyone grab their favorite blanket and instead of reaching for the popcorn, try out this fun monster munch snack mix recipe. Maybe even have the kids help you prepare it earlier in the day, or the day before.

A few movie ideas:

  •  Spookly the Square Pumpkin (for littles)
  •  Hotel Transylvania
  •  Monster House
  •  Halloweentown
  •  Hocus Pocus

I can’t wait to see what activities you choose to incorporate into your Halloween At Home Party this year and don’t forget to tag us in your party pictures on social!
