Chocolate cake has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It’s masked many emotions, it’s been shared with friends, and it’s offered as a reward for a “job well done”. It has gotten me through some of the toughest times while also the reason for many of my diets. My favorite way to enjoy chocolate cake is in a bowl with milk. Yes, you read that correctly. In a bowl of milk. I don’t know exactly how generational this tradition is, but I do know that it is my mom’s favorite way to eat chocolate cake and now, mine too. The milk might be optional, but celebrating National Chocolate Cake Day is a must!
Sandwiched between holiday goodies, New Year’s resolutions, and the sweets of Valentine’s day is National Chocolate Cake Day. On Sunday, January 27, pull out the baking pans, put on the elastic waist pants, and enjoy a day full of indulgence. It comes in many forms: sheet, bundt, molten, layered, or cake topped with ganache or mousse. Whatever your preference, chocolate cake is commonly understood that it is often a symbol of love or celebration. In the spirit of celebrating, here is a family favorite recipe!
