Omaha Mom :: Introducing Tessa

Omaha is a wonderful place to be, although I never expected to call it home. Growing up, Omaha was a metropolis compared to my hometown, and I was sure it had nothing to offer me. Boy was I wrong. My husband and I moved to Omaha in 2003. We had six months of marriage under our belts and were both getting restless. He was excited about our transition, but I was more than a little nervous. I landed a teaching position at Millard South High School and the rest is history. One house purchased, three degrees, and three kids later, we are absolutely in love with our city. Raising a family in Omaha gives us the best of many worlds. The opportunities to explore and learn are endless. We are 15 minutes from a busy downtown or a rural gravel road. Every year we spend in Omaha is one spent learning and growing. We are blessed to call this city our home.

Mom

In 2005, my son made me a mom for the first time, and a little brother and sister have since joined him.  We are the proud parents of three active children, and our lives are incredibly full. As many say, I never believed I could love anyone as much as I loved my first son, but each child added something to my life that I never knew was missing. My oldest is a trailblazer, fighting for what he knows to be right (when he isn’t antagonizing his little brother). My middle son is our connector. He makes us laugh and smile. He is as intelligent as he is ornery. My daughter is our CEO. She rules the roost when her brothers let her, and she believes she is capable of anything. I learn every day from my children. They are little pockets of energy, and being their mom is the most important job I’ll ever have.

Blog

A very good friend of mine and I have had a family blog for a little over a year called Family Footnote. Through this platform I have learned a lot about the blogging community. I have experienced how supportive fellow writers are when it comes to putting art out into the world to connect and help others. I’m a faithful City Mom Collective reader, and this is why I am excited to be a part of Omaha Mom. I cannot wait to connect with parents in Omaha in order to highlight why we are very fortunate to be part of this community. Although my view of parenting keeps shifting (I’ve recently become a parent of a middle schooler), I believe the more support parents can get raising our next generation, the better off everyone will be in our city and our world. I’m excited for this new endeavor.
