Today is my ten year wedding anniversary.
I am thinking back on our marriage prep, wondering if I was prepared at all for the past decade of matrimony. In our marriage prep, we discussed the big topics—the important decisions that make or break a marriage. The mountain that you either climb to the top or fall crashing to the bottom. By the time we got married, we felt like expert mountain climbers. We were ready! Yet over the last ten years, we have been surprised by the little things that cause bumps in the road. The uneven spots in the sidewalk that catch your step. The wall you stub your toe on. The rock in your shoe.
Therefore, I am instituting my own marriage prep discussion list.
1. Toilet Paper Placement
Just maybe don’t choose one of these…
2. Towel Folding Technique
The “Sushi Roll”
The “At Least They are Clean”
The “At Least I Showered”
3. Toothpaste Squeezing Technique
There is only one right way
4. Leftover Etiquette
How long until the leftovers become joint property within a marriage?
5. Blanket Sharing within a Marriage
Survival of the fittest. There is a solution.
6. Peanut Butter and Jelly Etiquette for Marriage
You got peanut butter in the jelly!
You got jelly in the peanut butter!
Or just maybe wipe off the knife???
7. Restaurant Entrée Sharing
Don’t be this person in a marriage.
8. Dream Behavior
Can you really be held accountable for something you do in your partner’s dreams?
Yes. Yes, you can.
9. TV Show Betrayal
I will choose you to be my wedded husband/wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part…unless you watch our tv show without me. Then, all bets are off.
10.The Eternal Marriage Debate
Where do you want to eat?
