It’s that time of year again. . . Time for wearing shorts, sunscreen, and another round of podcast recommendations for those late-night summer walks.

Historical, Political, Sports, and Other Pop Culture Topics
Floodlines: True life stories from Hurricane Katrina that you’ve never heard about.
NPR Code Switch: From the NPR pod description itself, “hosted by journalists of color, our podcast tackles the subject of race head-on. This podcast makes ALL OF US part of the conversation. It’s the fearless conversations about race that you’ve been waiting for!”
How to Save a Planet: Climate change is one of those things that keeps me up at night. This is a podcast that talks about how we can solve things.
Nice White Parents: From Serial and The New York Times, this podcast was a hit. It talks about the most powerful force at work in education — white parents.
Verified: Dust Up: The second season is about a group of women who developed ovarian cancer after using Johnson & Johnson baby powder. The podcast takes listeners through the brand’s fight to defend itself against the many claims in court that the baby powder is to blame for their suffering.
All American Tiger: Tiger, Tiger Woods, ya’ll! Sorry, I had to. Tiger is an icon, whether you like him or not. This podcast (pre-his most recent crash and HBO doc) is about his upbringing and rise to fame – and then what came after. I fancied myself someone who knew quite a bit about his story, but I was wrong.
The Edge: Houston Astros: Another sports podcast here. Even if you’re not a sports person, this one is interesting! You’ll get to hear interviews with lots of people involved in the cheating scandal that was the 2017 Houston Astros’ World Series win.
Miscellaneous
Solve: It’s fictional and puts listeners in the detective seat by presenting just a few suspects and seeing if YOU can solve the case.
Grand Casino: Another fictional one here. If you have anyamount of a sense of humor, you will LOL while you’re listening, so maybe don’t listen while you’re supposed to be on a webinar.
Blood Ties: The last of the fiction ones, but trust me, you’ll be hooked on all the family drama. So that you don’t waste hours of your time trying to pinpoint where you know the main character’s voice from, it’s Josh Gadd aka Olaf. You’re welcome.
Strange and Unexplained with Daisy Egan: This one is relatively new to me, but I don’t know where Daisy Egan has been all my life. With her very deadpan sense of humor, she tells the stories of some in fact, very strange, happenings. My favorite episode is the first one about The Watcher House – whhaaaaat?!
The Carey Nieuwhof Leadership Podcast: A little bit outside the scope of these other recommendations, but I’m a big Carey Nieuwhof fan. He is one of my top go-tos for all things leadership and self-improvement. He has a phenomenal blog as well.
Failing Motherhood: A local mom and parent coach who founded Wholeheartedly brings us this podcast with different guests and topics each episode. They’re short enough to listen to on a commute, during school pick up lines, or quick Target run (hahahahaha just kidding, what’s that?)
